My nephew entered into Tempe Post Acute Physical Therapy a week ago. Within 24 hours he was treated so inhumanely I had to call the administrative director. Although it was neither the director or the nursing director that called me back. They sent someone else in their place to call me. I explained that He was a patient that was of sound mind. He was a 41 year old male that had been in a very bad accident that required long term physical therapy. I had asked to use the facilities after his arrival. They came and brought him a bed pan and told him to go in there. He said he just needed help into the restroom. They scoffed at him and left him to go in the bed pan. Urination is not what the issue was. He was left to his own devices and had to use the bed pan. Once he was finished he asked for assistance but no one came for over 45 minutes. It was humiliating for a 41 year old male to be left to sit in his own feces for that long. I explained to the person who called me that, most of the patience there are much older, most with Dementia or Alzheimer’s and really have no sense of reality. That of course they deserve a high level of care, but this young man is very alert and understands what is going on. She agreed but it was only good for a few days. He said if he needs anything the staff is unkind and resents being asked to do anything. The foods is horrible and he just felt he had no self worth. Here is the way I see it. Staff in these types of facilities choose to work there. Most patience do not choose to be there. They deserve some sort of humanity to maintain their dignity. If you do not have the patience to work in a place like this, go somewhere where you can. Let the skilled nursing and support employees that genuinely care do the job. Hi doctor came in today and found deplorable conditions and my nephew with a leaning open wound that had not been attended to, nor did they contact his doctor to let him know. He is moving him out of there today.
